I have been away for a long time, but I knew I had to finish this story. In the future, I think I may present a story in full before placing it here. My stories are to be published in book form, starting with the “Adventures of Lizzie Jane”

You’re working outside, on a beautiful day, but as you work your attention is distracted.
At first you hear the engine noise with the distinctive modulation created by a revolving prop, the longer you hear it, the more you realize that it is not an ordinary small plane. The sounds on your audio horizon are just wrong and they do not change at a rate you would expect for the Doppler Effect for approaching or retreating sources.
Your eyes rise to the sky to find the audible intruder, searching back and forth while your ears serve as a pair of direction finders, balancing the volume between them.
Then you see it, a contraption of wheels, sticks, part of a parachute, with a seat followed by an engine block. The operator sits in the middle of the contraption. You realize someone had a sense of humor.
The parachute cloth of the wing bore the name and picture from a popular Arabian themed brand of cigarettes. No, not the full flavor version, this is an ultra-light.

For a moment, I could hardly move. My limbs felt like jelly, and my throat was so dry I had a hard time getting my words out.
"B-but it was an accident! She startled me!"
"We know," she interrupted. "But, Hannele... Did you know who that girl was?"

"Hanna?" Minoka's concerned voice sounded behind me. "Is something wrong?"
I barely paid attention to her. My whole body was tensed in primal fear, prepared to lash out at the slightest movement. The door slammed open, and I lunged out, my sickles slashing blindly.

I walked slowly down to the Battle Tactics Classroom, sickles clutched in my trembling hands. The school was up and about now, with people rushing in the hallways, dragging and carrying weapons with them.
"That was awesome!" gushed Elly, a bayonet slung over his shoulder. "Can you believe what I got? A gun and a sword! That's like two in one!"

Dear Ajau and Jajau,
How are you? Here at school I'm having a great time, except that a girl was murdered by a vampire today. I want you to be extra careful, in case vampires target you guys, too. I'm not being paranoid, no matter what my big brother might say. How are Keasa and Reuwo?

When I woke up, it was with a dry throat and a sore back. I realized I was slumped over my work half-asleep, and straightened up, wincing in pain at the aching.
The sun was shining through the window, and I blinked at the sudden light. Then it hit me like a train that I was probably late, because every going-to-magic-school story had to have this cliche at one point or another.

I hadn't realized the class had gone by so quickly. I guess when things are getting interesting time flies faster.
I emerged into the cafeteria, my shoulders still in a vice grip under Elly's arm.
"Whoa, look at all the food," he said, gazing at what was practically a buffet stretching from wall to wall. "I wonder how they keep it filled so much."

Battle tactics wasn't as exciting as I had hoped it would be. Mostly we just sat at our desks while a teacher rambled on about swordfighting, blocking, and attacking. However, we were informed that next week we would actually get to use a sword, so I just had to endure it until then.

The room was immaculately clean. White walls, polished wooden floor, orderly bookcases.
I can't believe it was me.
The woman behind the desk was gentle and understanding, with curly blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. "Miss Cenobi Hannele, is it?"
Am I supposed to be happy, or scared?
My voice came out in a squeak. "Please, call me Hanna."

Cat and Dog
by Joyce Melton
The Cat woke up in her tree and took a long stretch before looking around. The sun rose over there and that was right. Birds, delicious birds, flew over there, and that was right. The Dog was sniffing under her tree, and that was wrong.

Chapter1: Fresh Start
Maybee is a dull town, I thought as I got out of my father’s jeep and walked up the sidewalk to our new house. It was mid-august, and we had just moved, again. The ninth move in two years. I looked up at the house, an ugly two story yellow thing that very closely resembled a large box, and sighed.

Remember, she is a female gunslinger and the woman with her is a sharp shooter. It is said the other woman can shoot a target dead center while riding a horse at full gallop. I think you can handle them, but not here in town. It would cause too many questions, so what I suggest is to ride out into the desert and lead them into an ambush. That way, no one will know who did it and you would be in the clear.”

A week after my first move in, I finally got to have my meeting with David and Min. In that time, I worked up my proposal, and when we had our meeting, I tried to have all the answers to any objections they’d have.

THE WAR OF INCLUSIVENESS
A Future Fable by Laika Pupkino
MINUTES OF MINDJACK #1:
HUMANITY COMES OF AGE
We killed off the last of those stupid religious people. Removed their force of blindness from this Earth. They were the last real impediment to human progress, the last stronghold of deliberate ignorance, what they called faith. Our faith was in what could be measured. And what we believed in was humanity. Us. People.
